Merchiston Football Tournament

On Sunday 15th January, eight members of the U12 Football squad represented Ardvreck at the Merchiston U12 Indoor Football Tournament. 

The first match was a draw against Loretto, with two goals from each team. The second match was played against the eventual winners of the Tournament, Currie Star; a local junior football club. The confidence of the whole of the Ardvreck squad had been given a boost by the first match, and Ardvreck emerged winners with a 3-1 scoreline in our favour.  We faced Merchiston in the third match. Once again, strong goalkeeping and excellent defending were in evidence. In the final match, against Belhaven, the final score was a 1-0 win for Ardvreck. 

So, the final tally was two wins, one draw and one loss. Both Merchiston and Currie Star won three out of their four matches, and therefore first and second place was decided by a ‘golden goal’ final; Currie Star scored the ‘golden goal’ and so gained First Place. Ardvreck’s strong performance was rewarded with third place out of five. Ardvreck gained great pleasure from being the only squad to defeat the eventual Tournament winners.
