Cross-Country

Cross-country running takes place in the spring term. The extensive school grounds lend themselves to this sport and we have a varied course marked out on the bottom pitches, which offers field and woodland terrain as well as flat and hilly sections. This course enables pupils to prepare effectively for competitive events.

There are usually four major competitions: runners compete in the Lathallan Meeting, the Merchiston Cross-Country Relay, the Strathallan Meeting and the Scottish Preparatory Schools’ Cross-Country Championships at Belhaven. The highlight of the season is our own inter-house competition, which the majority of pupils choose to enter. There is also an annual charity fun run in the summer term for parents and pupils.
