Girls' Hockey
All girls from age five to thirteen enjoy taking part in hockey sessions. There is an emphasis on building skills with the correct technique so that by the time girls leave Ardvreck they are versatile and competent hockey players.
Learning how to play as part of a team, rather than an individual is also an important part of the coaching message. Competitive fixtures are played against other schools across Scotland, with teams at Under 9, Under 11, and 1st and 2nd teams all playing on a regular basis. Virtually every girl has the opportunity to represent the school in one of these teams.
The standard of girls’ hockey at Ardvreck is extremely high, and the school certainly “punches above its weight” with the first team winning all but one competitive match played in the past five years. A large proportion of the girls are selected each year to play for the West of Scotland Prep Schools team.
