Shooting

Ardvreck is the only prep school North of the border to offer .22 rifle shooting. All pupils are given the chance to try this exciting activity, usually in the fourth form. We are fortunate to have an excellent purpose-built indoor 20 yard range with two firing points and the 1st V111 squad also shoots outdoors at 50 and 100 yards at nearby Drummond Castle in the Summer Term. Pupils learn to handle firearms with great care and respect and the focus and concentration that they acquire can prove very beneficial elsewhere in their education.

Most pupils show sufficient aptitude to represent the school in various competitions shot on a postal basis and we have also recently resurrected our involvement in 'shoulder to shoulder' matches. Members of the 1st V111 squad compete successfully at various age levels including adult competitions.

Shooting takes place almost every day of the week at various times which, as far as possible, avoid clashes with the many other activities in which pupils are involved.
